Caught-In or -Between Hazards
60 min · OSHA 29 CFR 1926 · 3-question quiz
Focus Four — from the Anvil & Co. course library.
What you will learn:
• Recognize pinch points, rotating parts and trench cave-ins.
• Keep guards in place and lock out before maintenance.
• Never enter an unprotected trench 5 feet or deeper.
Key points:
• Keep machine guards in place. Never reach into moving parts; loose clothing, jewelry and long hair get pulled in.
• Stay out of the space between equipment and walls, trucks or other fixed objects.
• Trenches 5 feet or deeper need a protective system unless in stable rock; 20 feet or deeper needs an engineer's design (29 CFR 1926.652).
• Block raised beds, blades and buckets before working under them.
• Lock out equipment before clearing jams or doing maintenance.
Scenario: A conveyor jams at the screen plant and someone says, 'Just pull it out real quick.' What do you do?
